15 September — Battle of Britain Day

Today we honour “the Few” — the brave RAF pilots and crews who stood firm in the skies during the Battle of Britain.

On this day in 1940, they turned back the Nazi Luftwaffe’s relentless attacks, halting Hitler’s plans to invade Britain and changing the course of history.

“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
— Winston Churchill, 1940

We will never forget their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve.

Sound recording was made circa 1996 by Jonathan Slatter nr Farnborough Air Show using a Portadat Recorder and an M-S microphone configuration using Sennheiser MKH30 / MKH40. Decoded and mastered in SADiE.

You can download a recording of the sounds here:

Recording the sounds of gently lapping ocean waves at Lulworth Cove, Dorset, UK

Lulworth Cove

Some very gentle relaxing sea waves breaking on to the pebbles and shingle at Lulworth Cove on Dorset’s Jurassic coastline in the UK. The shape of the cove was caused by Wave Diffraction – see the Wiki Article here.

Lulworth Sea Waves recorded July 2025

The waves were recorded early in the morning, on the pebble and shingle beach inside the cove, on a calm sunny day using a matched stereo pair of Clippy EM172s and an Olympus LS-14 portable recorder. Editing and post production carried out in Reaper. You can download the waves from the audio player for private use only. The audio is Copyright Jonathan Slatter 2025.
